strategic marketing and marketing communications professional with 18+ years experience
For me, marketing is a conversation among friends. That means I imagine myself sitting directly across from you at a table; if I wouldn’t be comfortable sharing with you face-to-face, I keep going until I am.
I put people at the heart of marketing and deliver relatable stories, accessible ideas, and straightforward content that create and grow welcoming communities.
I've provided engaging content and marketing programs for solo entrepreneurs to Global 1000 organizations.
I’ve transitioned technology firms and startups from traditional, hard-to-measure print advertising and direct mailers to personalized, targeted multi-channel communication campaigns orchestrated with marketing automation.
I've worked with early to mid-size startups, refining product offerings and driving adoption early on for innovative technology, such as Built-in Self-Test (BIST), Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), and Complex Event Processing (CEP).
I’ve revived inbound traffic after website redesigns have focused on look and shutdown lead flow numerous times.
I’ve rebuilt lead generation in regions that had been scorched by past cold emailing campaigns.
I've helped clients discover their voice and learn how to share their stories naturally and effortlessly.
You could say I'm an expert at fitting square pegs into round holes. After all, I was the first at my university to pursue both engineering and communications majors, graduating with both a Bachelor in Science, Civil Engineering, and a Bachelor in Arts, Communications.
With this dual focus, I became a content and digital marketing pioneer. I developed context-sensitive help before it was ubiquitous. I designed a wizard that facilitated risk-free learning while users worked—a time when most business products lacked undo functionality. I differentiated a Thai restaurant franchise with chef-focused branding, including cooking classes, a cookbook with signature dishes, and more, when cooks weren’t typically seen outside the kitchen. I championed content marketing before it was a thing, launching developer extranets, user forums, blogs, and newsletter programs with benchmarks to track campaign/message effectiveness and engagement. When social media was overlooked by many businesses, I leveraged social media in business-to-business (B2B) outreach, gaining first page search results for highly competitive industry keywords with no advertising budget.
I have more than 18 years of strategic marketing and marketing communications experience. I've worked with solo entrepreneurs and Global 1000 organizations across Consumer Electronics, Food and Beverage, Retail, Network Hardware, and Enterprise Software industries. Drawing on nine years of experience working with early stage startups, I distill dreams into tangible concepts that come to life through content, conversations, and experiences. Behind the scenes, I establish the groundwork for attracting and nurturing new customers and for retaining existing customers. I define business processes and set up operations with customer relationship management software and marketing automation, such as SalesForce, NetSuite, and Marketo, that will grow with the business. I specialize in discovering patterns in data, finding and shaping compelling narratives, sharing complex ideas simply, and delivering content that gets results.
Naturally curious, I'm always learning, increasing my knowledge, and testing industry best practices for myself. I've been speaking, mentoring, and teaching professionally since 1994, including a 10-week Digital Marketing course at General Assembly. I also offer e-courses and customized workshops for teams that want to evaluate their current marketing programs and move from popularity to profitability.
I live in San Francisco, CA with my husband, 6.5-year-old daughter, and Maine Coon cat. Together, we're making 849 square feet in a 100-year old Edwardian into a home. Currently I run a marketing consulting firm, focused on branding, content, and digital marketing. Previously, I've held Director-level positions at such high-technology firms as EXO U, Inc., WildPackets, Inc. (now Savvius, Inc.), Appscio, Inc., and GroundWork Open Source, Inc. In my spare time, I write about urban dwelling, parenting, entertaining, and simple crafts for the home on my lifestyle blog, The Road to The Good Life, with an emphasis on appreciating the haves rather than lingering on the wants. I've worked with consumer brands such as Bing, Cricut, Farm Fresh to You, Kiwi Crate, La Crema Winery, McDonald’s, Tiny Prints, Walmart, and more.
